Willow was born on 2 June 2003 in Landstuhl, Germany. At eight weeks, she began to favour lying on one side over the other, which made it difficult for parents Sandy and David to reposition her in her cot. As Willow was Sandy’s first and only child, she had no idea that this was not normal.

At ten weeks, Willow was diagnosed with torticollis and Sandy was told to rotate her in the cot every night and to do some stretching exercises at home. In addition, Willow saw a private therapist for another six months. Willow also developed plagiocephaly, as she had continuously laid her head flat on the right side. This came as a shock as it seemed to have happened overnight. Willow’s pediatrician referred to a specialist in Germany, who made an assessment and cast her the same day for her helmet, which she received ten days later.

Willow began the treatment with a misalignment of 12mm and after 11 weeks graduated at 1mm asymmetry. After a further four months she attended a follow-up, at which her head was confirmed symmetrical. Now 18 months old, Willow is full of beans and Sandy is thankful that she had the chance to treat her conditions and fully resolve them.
